Full-arch dental implants

All-on-4 Perth dental implants: a fixed full arch on four implants

All-on-4 dental implants replace a full upper or lower arch with fixed teeth held by four implants. It may suit you if most teeth in one jaw are missing or failing. Treatment starts from $25,000 per arch, confirmed after your consultation.

We provide All-on-4 in Perth, inside Bentley Plaza Shopping Centre on Albany Hwy, Bentley. Dr Chetana Parthasarathy has more than 15 years of experience, and her work includes implant surgery and full mouth reconstructions. Your first visit is an exam and X-rays of your jawbone.

What it is

What is All-on-4?

At our Perth clinic, All-on-4 dental implants replace every tooth in one jaw with a fixed bridge. Four implants hold the bridge in place.

People often ask about All-on-4 after years of failing teeth, repeated repairs or a denture that will not stay put. A consultation shows you where you stand and what your choices are.

The bridge stays in your mouth day and night. You clean it in place, much like natural teeth. Only your dentist takes it out, for a professional clean or a repair.

Is it right for you?

Is All-on-4 right for you?

All-on-4 suits some people better than others. Use this list to prepare questions for your visit.

It may suit you if

  • Most of the teeth in one jaw are missing, loose or failing
  • Your denture moves when you eat or speak, and you want fixed teeth
  • You want teeth that stay in at night
  • Your general health allows oral surgery
  • You can clean the bridge daily and keep regular check-ups

Another option may suit you if

  • Only one or a few teeth are missing. A single tooth implant or a bridge may fit better.
  • You have gum disease that has not been treated. It needs care first.
  • You smoke. Smoking raises the risk of implant problems.
  • You have a health condition or take medicines that affect healing.

Your dentist confirms suitability at your consultation.

How it works

How All-on-4 works

Each arch gets four implants. An implant is a small titanium post that does the job of a tooth root. Two implants sit upright near the front of the jaw. The other two sit further back, tilted at an angle.

The tilt has a purpose. Bone at the back of the jaw often shrinks after teeth are lost. Angling the back implants lets them use more of the bone you still have.

Next, the bone and implants grow together. Dentists call this osseointegration. Once that bond is firm, a full-arch bridge is fixed to the four implants. The bridge is made to suit your bite, your face and your smile.

Upper, lower or both

All-on-4 for the upper and lower jaw

You can have All-on-4 on the upper jaw, the lower jaw or both. Each jaw has its own planning points.

  • Upper jaw. The sinuses sit above the back teeth. Tilting the back implants can keep them clear. Some people still need extra bone first.
  • Lower jaw. A nerve runs through the back of the lower jaw. Your dentist plans each implant position around it.
  • Both jaws. Some people treat both arches together. Others treat one arch, then the other. Your dentist explains the choice for your health and budget.

Your X-rays show the bone, the sinuses and the nerve. Your dentist uses them to plan where each implant goes.

The process

Your All-on-4 treatment, step by step

Timing differs for each person. Your dentist gives you a timeline for your own case at the consultation.

All-on-4 treatment steps: 1, X-rays of the jaw; 2, four implants placed; 3, the bone heals around the implants; 4, the fixed bridge is attached
Illustration of the four main stages. Your own timeline is set at your consultation.
  1. Consultation and X-rays

Your dentist examines your mouth and takes X-rays to check your jawbone and remaining teeth. You also talk through your medical history and any medicines you take.

  2. Treatment plan and quote

You receive a treatment plan and a quote that lists each item. Bring your health fund card, and we can give you an estimate on the spot.

  3. Preparation

Some people need work first, such as tooth removal or gum disease treatment. Your dentist explains what your case needs.

  4. Implant surgery

Four implants are placed in the jawbone. Feeling anxious? Ask about sleep dentistry, which is overseen by registered anaesthetists and nurses.

  5. Healing

Over 3 to 6 months, your jawbone bonds with the implants. Eat soft food while your gums settle. Your dentist explains what you wear during this time.

  6. Your final bridge

Once the implants have bonded, your final bridge is fitted. Review visits and regular cleans help keep your gums and implants healthy.

Your dentist explains each step before treatment starts.

After surgery

Recovery and life with All-on-4

Swelling, bruising and tenderness are common for the first few days after surgery. Plan some quiet days at home. Your dentist gives you aftercare instructions before you leave.

  • Eat soft food while your gums heal. Move back to firmer food when your dentist says it is time.
  • Clean around the bridge every day, using the tools your dentist shows you.
  • Keep each review visit, so your dentist can check how the implants are bonding.
  • Avoid smoking. It slows healing and raises the risk of implant problems.

In the long term, look after the bridge as you would natural teeth. Regular check-ups and professional cleans help keep your gums healthy. Over the years, the bridge may wear and need repair.

Bring to your consultation

  • Your health fund card, for an on-the-spot estimate
  • Your denture, if you wear one
  • Your questions about cost, timing and recovery
Know the risks

Risks and possible complications

All-on-4 is surgery, and every surgery carries risk. Your dentist explains the risks at your consultation, along with your other options. Bring your questions to that visit.

  • Infection, swelling or bleeding after surgery
  • An implant that does not bond with the bone and needs to be replaced
  • Numbness or tingling in the lip, chin or tongue if a nerve is affected
  • Sinus problems when implants are placed in the upper jaw
  • Wear, chips or a loose screw in the bridge over time

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Your choices

All-on-4 and other full-arch options

All-on-4 is one way to replace a full arch. It is not the only way. Your dentist talks you through each option, including what happens if you choose to wait.

  • All-on-4 fixed bridge. Four implants hold a bridge that replaces a full arch. It does not rely on suction or adhesive, and an upper bridge leaves the roof of your mouth uncovered.
  • Fixed bridge on more implants. Some jaws suit five, six or more dental implants under a fixed bridge.
  • Implant-retained denture. A removable denture that clips onto implants. It moves less than a denture held by suction, and you take it out to clean it.
  • Full denture. A removable plate that rests on your gums. It needs no surgery and usually costs less, but it can move when you eat. Read more about dentures.
  • Saving some teeth. If a few teeth can be kept, fillings, crowns or gum treatment may come first.

Fixed teeth are not right for everyone. They cost more than a denture and need surgery. Weigh up both sides with your dentist before you choose.

FAQs

All-on-4 questions answered

How much do All-on-4 dental implants cost in Perth?

At Bentley Plaza Dental, All-on-4 starts from $25,000 per arch, or from $50,000 for both arches. Your final price is confirmed after your consultation. It depends on your bridge, any grafts or extractions, and sedation.

How long does All-on-4 treatment take?

The implants bond with the bone over 3 to 6 months. Extractions or gum treatment beforehand can add time. Your dentist gives you a timeline for your own case.

Why do All-on-4 prices vary between clinics?

Quotes differ in what they include. Some cover the implants only. Others include the final bridge, the teeth you wear while healing, X-rays and review visits. Compare what each quote lists, not only the first number.

How long do All-on-4 implants last?

No dentist can promise a set lifespan. Implants are a long-term option when you clean them daily, avoid smoking and keep regular check-ups. The bridge may need repairs or replacing over time.

What is the downside of All-on-4 dental implants?

All-on-4 needs surgery, months of healing and a larger budget than a denture. Like any surgery, it carries risks, such as infection or an implant not bonding. The bridge can also wear or chip.

Will I be asleep for All-on-4 surgery?

You can ask about sleep dentistry. Options include inhalation, oral or IV sedation, and general anaesthesia. Registered anaesthetists and nurses oversee our sedation.

Does my health fund cover All-on-4?

Some extras policies pay part of the cost. It depends on your level of cover, limits and waiting periods. Bring your card, and we can give you an estimate on the spot through HICAPS.

What are the risks of All-on-4?

Risks include infection, an implant that does not bond, nerve changes such as numbness, and sinus problems in the upper jaw. Your dentist explains each risk at your consultation.
