The basics

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone. It takes the place of the root of a missing tooth.

Once the bone has bonded with it, the implant holds a crown, a bridge or a denture. We use TGA-approved implant systems from Zimmer, BNB Dental and MIS.

  • The teeth beside the gap stay as they are. A standard bridge needs them reshaped. An implant does not.
  • A fixed tooth. An implant crown stays in place. A removable denture can move when you eat or speak.
  • Cleaned like your own teeth. Brush and floss around it every day, and keep your regular check-ups.

What you pay for

What a single implant price includes

A single dental implant has three parts. The single implant price in the table above covers all three.

  • The implant. The titanium post itself.
  • The abutment. A small connector that joins the implant to the crown.
  • The crown. A custom-made tooth, shaped and shaded to sit well with your other teeth.

Some costs sit outside this figure, because not everyone needs them. The next section lists them. If you need any of them, your quote shows each one as its own line.

What changes the cost of your implant

Two people can need very different work for the same gap. These are the main things that move the price up or down.

  • How many teeth you replace. More implants and a longer bridge cost more.
  • Your jawbone. Thin or shrunken bone may need a graft before the implant goes in.
  • Upper back teeth. Implants near the sinus sometimes need a sinus lift to add bone.
  • Teeth that need to come out. A failing tooth may have to be removed first.
  • Sedation. Sleep dentistry adds a cost if you choose it.

Extra costs that may apply

  • Bone graft, sinus lift and extraction prices are in the price list above
  • Sleep dentistry, quoted for your case
  • Your dentist tells you which apply after your X-rays
Comparing quotes

Why implant prices differ between clinics

Advertised implant prices in Perth do not always cover the same things. Some cover the implant post alone. Others include the abutment, the crown and review visits.

So compare what each quote includes, not just the first number. A headline price and a final total can differ once every part is added.

Ask every clinic the same questions. That way, you compare like with like.

Questions to ask about any implant quote

  • Does the price include the abutment and crown?
  • Are X-rays and review visits included?
  • Is a bone graft or extraction likely in my case?
  • What is the crown or bridge made of?
  • What does follow-up care cost?
Health funds and Medicare

Health funds, Medicare and your implant

Bring your health fund card to your appointment. We process your claim through our on-site HICAPS system before you leave.

How much your fund pays depends on your policy. Implants are often treated as major dental under extras cover. Check your limits and waiting periods with your fund before treatment.

Medicare does not usually cover dental implants for adults. At your consultation, we give you a free quote with a health fund estimate.

Compare your tooth replacement options

The right option depends on how many teeth are missing. Replacing one tooth? Read about our single tooth implant treatment. Missing most or all teeth in a jaw? Read about All-on-4 dental implants. Each price is in the price list above.

  • Single implant

For one missing tooth. Each gap gets its own implant.

  • Implant bridge

For a gap of several missing teeth. You need fewer implants than teeth.

  • All-on-4 full arch

A fixed option for a whole jaw. It stays in at night.

  • Implant-retained denture

For a full arch, if you prefer a denture you can take out.

Is an implant right for you?

Who dental implants suit, and when another option may be better

An implant is not the lowest-cost way to fill a gap. These points help you weigh it up with your dentist.

An implant may suit you if

  • You want a fixed tooth that does not come out
  • You prefer not to reshape the healthy teeth beside the gap
  • You wear a denture and find it loose
  • Your gums are healthy and your jawbone can hold an implant, with or without a graft
  • You are ready to care for an implant every day

A lower-cost option may suit you if

  • Your budget is tight right now. A denture costs less and needs no surgery.
  • The teeth beside the gap already need crowns. A standard bridge may suit.
  • You have a health condition that affects healing.
  • You smoke and cannot stop. Smoking raises the risk of implant problems.

Your dentist confirms suitability at your consultation.

Step by step

How dental implant treatment works

These are the steps from your first visit to your final crown. You decide if and when to go ahead.

  1. Your consultation

Book online or call (08) 9466 3600. Your dentist examines your mouth and takes X-rays of your jawbone and nearby teeth. You talk through your medical history and medicines.

  2. Your plan and written quote

Your dentist explains which options suit you and gives you a written quote. Ask about Afterpay or Zip Pay to spread the cost.

  3. Placing the implant

Your dentist places the implant in the jawbone. Your dentist explains each step before treatment starts.

  4. Healing

Over 3 to 6 months, the bone bonds with the implant. You wear a temporary crown during this time.

  5. Your final crown

Once the implant has bonded, your dentist fits the final crown.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Payment and health funds

Spread the cost of your implant

You do not have to pay for an implant in one go. Use your health fund rebate first, then split the balance.

  • Afterpay: four equal payments, due every fortnight
  • Zip Pay: interest-free instalments for treatment over $1,000
  • Zip repayments weekly, fortnightly or monthly, as suits you

Afterpay and Zip Pay are subject to each provider's approval. Sign up on their websites before your visit.

FAQs

Dental implant questions

How much does a dental implant cost in Perth?

A single implant starts from $4,999, with the abutment and crown included. Implant bridges start from $9,000. All-on-4 starts from $25,000 per arch. Your dentist confirms the exact price at your consultation.

How long does dental implant treatment take?

Most single implants take 3 to 6 months from placement to the final crown. The bone needs that time to bond with the implant. A bone graft or an extraction can add time. Your dentist gives you a timeline at your consultation.

Am I suitable for a dental implant?

You need healthy gums and enough jawbone to hold an implant, or a graft to add bone. Smoking and some health conditions can affect healing. Your dentist checks your mouth, X-rays and medical history, then tells you if an implant suits you.

Which implant brands do you use?

Zimmer, BNB Dental and MIS. Each of these systems is approved by the TGA. Your dentist explains which system suits your case.

How long do dental implants last?

With good care and regular check-ups, implants are a long-term option. Brush and floss around them like your own teeth. The crown may need replacing after some years.

Why is my quote higher than the advertised price?

A from price is the starting point for a simple case. Your quote can be higher if you need a bone graft, sinus lift, extraction or sedation. Each extra item is listed on your quote.

How much is a dental implant after a bone graft?

A single implant starts from $4,999 and a bone graft from $2,000. So a case that needs both starts from $6,999. Your dentist confirms whether you need a graft after your X-rays.

Does HBF cover dental implants?

It depends on your HBF extras cover, limits and waiting periods. We accept all health funds, including HBF. Bring your card, and you can claim on the spot through our HICAPS system.

Are dental implants covered by Medicare in Australia?

Not for most adults. Private health insurance extras may pay part of the cost. Ask us for a health fund estimate at your consultation.

What is cheaper than a tooth implant?

A standard denture is usually the lowest-cost option. A standard bridge is another, but your dentist has to reshape the teeth beside the gap. Your dentist compares the cost and upkeep of each with you.

Should I get dental implants overseas?

Some people consider it to save money. Before you decide, ask who handles follow-up visits and any problems once you are home. Implants need checks for years, so local aftercare matters.

What are the risks of dental implants?

Risks include infection, an implant that does not bond with the bone, and nerve or sinus problems.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
